Convert a DIVI website to WordPress

by Joe Leonard

Many website owners choose DIVI for their first website because it’s extremely simple to set up a site with no technical knowledge, and provides a very intuitive drag-and-drop interface that anyone can use.

As they grow, many of those same businesses realize that DIVI has limitations that affect their website growth, and decide they want to move to something more powerful and flexible. For many, ELEMENTOR is the obvious choice for their next website platform.

This article will walk you through what you need to consider before moving your site, outline your options for getting your site onto ELEMENTOR, and provide you with a step-by-step approach to get it done.

What You Need to Consider Before Moving from DIVI

First you will want to use a visual web builder very similar to DIVI’s web builder. I am suggesting Elementor.

The Elementor visual web builder is good replacement for the DIVI web builder because you will still have these features:

Drag-and-drop interface. The favored DIVI feature for many users is its intuitive drag-and-drop interface. If you’re moving from DIVI to ELEMENTOR, Elementor will allow you to maintain your website with a similar drag and drop capabilities without know any code.

Themes. You will have a much larger choice of themes with ELEMENTOR however there is no real way to move the theme from DIVI, so to get the same look and feel you will need to take a look at some of the many free ELEMENTOR themes available. Astra is a very good choice.

Functionality. With ELEMENTOR there are also many plugins available for additional functionality such as creating headers and foots with ELEMENTOR – many more than DIVI.

Migration Steps

Here are the steps involved in moving a website from DIVI to ELEMENTOR. As you know DIVI does not offer a simple way to simply get all your content and images in a single backup file.

Domain name

You will be able to keep the same domain name.

Install ELEMENTOR your new host

After you have hosting, I can take install ELEMENTOR and give you your login credentials.

Design

Next we need to agree on the theme design, layout, colors, and fonts.

Build pages

Next I need to duplicate the same pages in ELEMENTOR using your design.

Copy and paste content

The simplest way to migrate your site from DIVI to ELEMENTOR is for me to manually copy content from DIVI and paste it into the ELEMENTOR site, just like using a word processor.

The advantage of doing this page by page is that I can make sure every single piece of content is copied to the new ELEMENTOR site.

The obvious disadvantage of this method is that it is tedious and time-consuming, especially if you have a lot of posts and pages on your website

Images

I will use the same images as found on the DIVI website or you can supply me with other images or I can use royalty free stock image. Also I will need to optimize these images for fast loading.

Testing website

Once the pages have all been built, I will need to test them on various browsers like Chrome, IE, Firefox, and be sure they are mobile responsive on tablets, smartphones, and iPhones as well as on desktops.

Domain change

Once everything checks out, I will need to change the domain to point to your new hosting website. At this point you can cancel your DIVI account.

Conclusion

While DIVI may have suited you when you first launched your website, it may no longer have everything you need for your growing business. In checking out the alternatives for your website, you likely considered moving to ELEMENTOR.

DIVI, like many paid platforms, would prefer to keep you as a customer, so moving your website from their platform is not a simple one-click operation, but it can be done by following the steps we outlined above. With a little planning and our instructions, you can have your site moved from DIVI to ELEMENTOR in no time.

While the task is not difficult, it does take quite a bit of time to get done.
