Lawyers don't need a website - or do they?

Have you decided that you don’t really need a lawyer website for any of these reasons?
  • You already have enough business
  • you get enough referrals from other lawyers and former clients
  • You rely on social media like Facebook or Instagram
  • You are in a large firm and someone else brings in new clients
  • You don’t know how to get a  website done just don’t have the time
  • It probably costs too much
These may or may not be good reasons. Let me examine each one:
  • You already have enough business – For now it may be true, but as the years go  by clients move on and you need some way to replace them.
  • You get enough referrals from other lawyers and former clients or legal directories – nut still new client will “check you out” on the internet
  • You rely on social media like Facebook or Instagram or Twitter – Not all clients use social media and there is a lot of other lawyers there too.
  • You are in a large firm and someone else brings in new clients – Perhaps the only good reason why you don’t have to have a website or do any marketing.
  • You don’t know how to get website done or you don’t have to know anything about setting up a lawyer website – Not to worry we can do it all
  • A website probably costs too much – If you just get one or two new clients in a year the cost will be justified.

According to the National Law Review, 74% of consumers visit a law firm’s website.

Here are some reasons why your law practice might need a website or a website redesign.

1) It Makes it easier for Clients to Find Your Firm

Even when people already know of your firm, whether through referral or advertising, they’re likely to look you up online before calling you. This may come as a surprise to some, but it happens all the time.

They want to know who you are, can you help them, what do others say about you, what do you practice, where are you located, and how can they get in touch with you.

2) It’s a Communication Tool

Many times clients will need to visit your website just to grab some basic information. This could be an email address, phone number, mailing address or directions to your office. Having an online piece of real estate that you own and control, can update or refresh basic information like this is important for your practice.

3) Your own website builds Credibility & Trust

The next point is trust. While the commercial internet is only a few decades old, it has evolved fast and the way we use it in our daily lives has, too. The presence of a basic website establishes your legitimacy at a very fundamental level.

In the case that you law firm doesn’t have a website, you’re likely leaving a lot of money on the table. However, having a website is only the beginning of how you can establish credibility and trust with prospective clients. Having a well-designed, modern website with crisp, professional photos is important. A small business website, law firms and solo practitioners included, is the modern day equivalent of a CV or resume.
